“We have continually improved our position on the Chinese market since 1996, and we expect to see significant growth in Asia over the next few years,” predicts Dr. Harald Marquardt, Chairman of the Marquardt Group’s Board of Management. “A second production site will allow us greater flexibility and customer proximity, and will mean that we can better meet the growing demand for complex mechatronic system solutions.”

To name but one example, Marquardt will manufacture products for the automotive industry – including battery management systems for electric vehicles, drive authorization systems and displays – at its site in Weihai. The new plant will span a surface area of more than 20,000 m2 and could be flexibly extended in the future. Construction is set to be complete by the end of 2018, with production expected to start in 2018 too.

Marquardt has had a presence in Shanghai since 1996 through a subsidiary, where it today employs over 900 members of staff in production, logistics and administration. Device tooling switches, power tool switches and automotive systems will be manufactured for the Asian market.
