REDUCING CO2 - WITH COMMITMENT AND INNOVATIONS

We supply key technologies for the mobility revolution and many other sustainable products. In doing so, we see that there is always something to improve and that standing still would mean going backwards. That's why we want to continue to be a driver of positive change and make our contribution to a future worth living. We provide information on some of our sustainability initiatives in our Sustainability Report 2022 in accordance with the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

    Sustainability is Our Compass

As a creative mechatronics expert, Marquardt is passionately involved in developing forward-looking solutions – from drive systems in e-mobility and resource-saving household appliances to new technologies for the more environmentally-friendly energy generation. But sustainability first and foremost starts with sustainable management. Being an independent family-run business with a long-term strategy, Marquardt reinvests its profits; 10% of our annual turnover, for example, is invested in research and development. Together with an average of 11.2% of organic growth over the last twelve years and a healthy equity ratio, we are laying the foundations for responsible business practices with prospects.

With our solutions for e-mobility, we are helping to shape the path to a more climate friendly future. For example, we are investing in the production expansion of battery management systems at our Thuringia site at Erfurter Kreuz. IKB Deutsche Industriebank AG has classified our partial financing there via the KfW Climate Protection Offensive as sustainable. In recognition of this, Dr. Reiner Dietrich, head of the Baden-Württemberg branch of IKB (right side of the picture), recently complimented our Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Harald Marquardt, with a "Sustainable Loan Certificate".

    Sustainable Investments

Marquardt is constantly investing in sustainability and climate-friendly technology. In recognition of this, Dr. Reiner Dietrich, head of the Baden-Württemberg branch of IKB Deutsche Industriebank AG, recently complimented our Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Harald Marquardt, with the first "Green Loan Certificates".  Among other things, we invest the Green Loans in energy-efficient machines at our sites in Rietheim-Weilheim and Ichtershausen and for sustainable power generation, for example a photovoltaic system for our Development and Innovation center.

    Energy Made By Marquardt

In Rietheim-Weilheim, new technologies for e-mobility are researched at our Development and Innovation Center. The building consumes 60 percent less energy than conventional buildings. Marquardt installs its own combined heat and power plant and a photovoltaic system there. The electricity generated and the waste heat will be fed into the company’s own grid, thus reducing annual CO2 emissions by an average of 550 tons. The use of fossil fuels, such as gas and heating oil, is reduced with the introduction of a highly-efficient combined heat and power generator. The energy output of the combined heat and power plant is equivalent to the heat requirements of approx. 150 single-family homes and the electricity requirements of approx. 70 single-family homes.

    Participation in sustainability initiatives

For several years, Marquardt has been regularly evaluated by independent sustainability rating platforms for global supply chains, such as Ecovadis, NQC or the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). These recognize Marquardt as a "sustainable and socially conscious company". Criteria and indicators from the areas of environment, social affairs, ethics and procurement are evaluated. These are used to measure how well the company has integrated the principles of corporate social responsibility (CSR) into its business activities. The current CSR rating from EcoVadis puts Marquardt among the top 24 percent of the companies assessed by EcoVadis in the industry.

    Systematic Environmental Protection

The most innovative leaders in the industry must place the highest demands on their environmental performance. At Marquardt, we are therefore consistently pursuing our environmental protection goals. Energy conservation is top priority. To cut our electricity, compressed air, heating oil, gas and district heating consumption as much as possible, we have introduced an energy management system that meets the requirements of the globally valid DIN EN ISO 50001 standard. We have been harnessing the waste heat potential, using energy-efficient plants and equipment in production and building technology, reducing compressed air consumption and minimizing standby consumption throughout weekends and on public holidays, for a long time already.

    Committed to Good Causes

At Marquardt, we believe that it is important to give back. We work to preserve cultural heritage, promote music and education, and donate to social and humanitarian projects. Being a company whose history has strong roots in its region of origin, we pull our humanitarian efforts specifically to Baden-Württemberg. Since expanding into the international scene, we haven’t remained idle at our locations abroad when help has been needed.
