“In 2016, our growth was significantly above the industry average”, said Dr. Harald Marquardt, Chief Executive Officer of the Marquardt Group. “We owe this to our wide product range and the numerous innovative solutions for a variety of customer target groups. We have also consistently expanded our global presence and again invested massively in research and development, creating the prerequisites for sustainable success.”

    Growth through innovation

There was a particularly positive development in the Automotive division, where the demand for high-quality electromechanical components is steadily increasing: Marquardt supplied renowned car manufacturers with driver authorization systems with high anti-theft safety, remote keys, control panels and innovative lighting systems for the interior, among other products. The company was also able to score with intelligent solutions for domestic appliances, for example with efficient dosing pumps, which reduce detergent consumption and thus the environmental impact.

To ensure long-term growth, Marquardt continued to expand its global presence in the financial year 2016. The family-owned company has opened further sites in the UK, Italy, South Korea and Japan and is therefore able to serve its customers even better. There were also investments in research and development, amounting to around ten percent of the annual turnover. A large part of the capital exposure is apportioned to new tools and devices, machinery and equipment. The largest building investment made Marquardt at its Mexican plant in Irapuato, where the production area has been more than doubled.

One of the key strategic priorities for the company during the past financial year was entering into the dynamically growing e-bike market with a new all-in-one system: Marquardt supplies manufacturers of the bicycle industry with various versatile components, including on-board computers with smartphone connectivity, drives, batteries, sensors and control devices.

    Creating more jobs

By December 31, 2016, almost 9,300 employees were working for Marquardt Group at 18 locations worldwide. This implies a year-on-year increase of more than 500 in the number of employees. Last year, 41 trainees have started at Marquardt in Germany alone, as many as never before. Overall, the family-owned company is currently training more than 130 employees in twenty skilled occupations.

The company is optimistic about the future: “We do not only react to megatrends such as electric mobility and digitalization, we drive them forward with our innovative strength and create solutions with high customer benefit”, said Dr. Harald Marquardt. “Together with our employees, we will continue to grow and uphold the over ninety-year success story of Marquardt”.
