    Frequently asked questions

How does an ultrasonic flow sensor work?

An ultrasonic flow sensor (or flowmeter) uses piezo elements to send and receive a high frequency signal across the flow. Flow rate affects the transmitted signal, resulting in a delay. That difference in time—called “time of flight”—is used to calculate flow rate.

Can ultrasonic flow sensors be used for liquids with suspended solids?

In general, ultrasonic flow sensors are less impaired than other technologies by the presence of particles or solids, but performance may vary depending on size or concentration. Marquardt’s Ultrasonic Flow Sensor can be precisely calibrated to mitigate some of these performance issues.

What is the maintenance required for ultrasonic flow sensors?

Because ultrasonic flow sensors have no moving parts, no maintenance is required, and wear is minimal.

What is the maximum and minimum flow rate that can be measured by the Marquardt Ultrasonic Flow Sensors?

Depending on the application, the maximum and minimum flow rate will vary. For more detailed information, please refer to the Ultrasonic Flow Sensor data sheets.

What is the cost of a Marquardt Ultrasonic Flow Sensor?
