    Green Productivity

Marquardt presents smart solutions for agricultural machinery with alternative drives

    13.11.2023

Makes the entire charging process smarter: the Marquardt Interactive Charging Socket (ICS).
    • The mechatronics specialist is a partner in electrification for agricultural machinery manufacturers
    • Interactive Charging Socket (ICS) and E-Lock actuator for more comfort, safety and productivity during the charging process
    • High-voltage sensor offers safety against overcurrent in battery management systems

Rietheim-Weilheim, November 2023 – Alternative drives are also on the rise in agricultural production. At Agritechnica 2023, mechatronics and automotive specialist Marquardt will therefore present innovative systems and components for agricultural machines and commercial vehicles with hybrid or battery-electric drives. These include the Interactive Charging Socket (ICS) charging system with the associated E-Lock actuator locking system and a new high-voltage sensor for battery management systems.

    Partner of electrification

In the wake of environmental protection and exhaust emission requirements, drive systems that offer an alternative to diesel are increasingly finding their way into agricultural production. Agritechnica 2023, the world's leading trade fair for agricultural technology, is taking up this development under the heading of "Green Productivity". Smart components and systems for hybrid and battery-electric agricultural machinery and vehicles are therefore very much in demand. They must not only be robust and user-friendly, but also sustainable and function under extreme conditions. As a partner in electrification, Marquardt benefits here from its decades of know-how in the fields of power electronics and energy management. The mechatronics specialist supplies all components for this - from the complete battery management system to cell voltage monitoring and the components around the charging port, such as innovative HMIs, control electronics and sensor technology.

Safe charging with Interactive Charging Socket (ICS)

The Interactive Charging Socket (ICS) makes the charging process safer, more productive and offers customers innovative user interaction. Manufacturers of agricultural machinery and commercial vehicles benefit from the solution, as do manufacturers of charging stations. The smart charging system is compatible with all global inlet standards (CCS, MCS, NACS, ChaoJi, GB/T and CHAdeMO). In addition to various LED lighting scenarios, the ICS offers motorized inlet covers to protect the contact pins from dirt, sensor-based controls, a heating module for easy operation of the charging plug in icy conditions, and automated charging flaps. Marquardt's innovative S3 sensor (Superior Sensing Solution) is used, which works reliably even in extreme weather conditions such as ice or heavy rain.

    More safety with E-Lock

In addition, Marquardt offers a platform solution with the E-Lock charging plug interlock, which can be quickly and flexibly adapted to the requirements and wishes of the customer. This significantly reduces the time to market. The system detects up to five positions of the locking bolt and thus recognizes misalignments caused by dirt, ice or deformations on the charging plug, for example. The individual functionalities include mounting with clip or screw connection, the shape and extension length of the bolt depending on the vehicle model as well as the desired connection option by cable (pigtail) or in a plug configuration. Thanks to its compact size, the E-Lock from Marquardt can also be easily integrated into the charging port unit in the smallest of spaces: in e-offroad and commercial vehicles as well as in charging stations and passenger cars.

High-voltage sensor to meet safety requirements

The safety of vehicles with alternative drives is also served by a high-voltage sensor (HV sensor) that Marquardt has developed for battery management systems. It measures current and voltage not only very precisely, but also very quickly. In the event of an accident or overvoltage, the HV sensor can trigger a so-called pyroswitch. Then the circuit is interrupted within five milliseconds. The HV sensor also measures the insulation resistance and thus continuously monitors whether the resistance from the body to the battery is within the desired range. The HV sensor, which is also suitable for agricultural vehicles, can be installed in fully electric cars as well as in vehicles with hybrid engines or fuel cell drives.

World's largest trade fair for agricultural machinery

Agritechnica, organized by the German Agricultural Society (DLG), is considered the world's largest trade fair for agricultural technology. It will take place in Hanover from 12 to 18 November 2023.  Marquardt will be presenting its solutions in Hall 17, Stand E57.
